I stayed at Mayalland Homestay, Chhota Mungwa, Darjeeling, from 28th to 29th August 2026. Overall, I really liked the place, especially the peaceful location, beautiful mountain views, cleanliness and the warm behaviour of the host. The room was clean, and I particularly appreciated that the bedsheet and chador were clean and fresh—something I consider very important in a homestay. The location is very relaxing and ideal if you want to stay away from the crowd and enjoy the mountains. However, there are a few things that I feel the property should improve. The biggest issue is the Google Maps location. The proper/original road to the homestay is not clearly shown on Google Maps. There seem to be two ways to reach the property. One route is quite steep and difficult, which I experienced while visiting. The other route, through the Peshoke Road side, is much smoother and more comfortable. Clear directions from the main road would make a big difference, especially for first-time visitors. The room and toilet are somewhat small for my preference. At around 5'11" height, I found the toilet particularly uncomfortable. Considering the room tariff, I feel the bathroom could be improved. Coming to the food, I would rate it as average—not too good, not too bad. The host is very kind and cooperative, but I personally did not like the limitations of the food package. If you need something outside the scheduled food, you apparently need to inform them around two days in advance, which can be inconvenient. I understand that the main market is quite far away, so this arrangement is understandable to some extent. Personally, I would prefer an option of room-only accommodation, allowing guests to arrange their own food. At a similar price point, I have stayed at other homestays where I felt the room, bathroom and food package offered better overall value. Overall: a peaceful place with a kind host and beautiful views. Some improvements would make it excellent.
