We had planned a trip to any place where we don't have to meet people and have a quiet vacation for two weeks...and we across this place accidentally.
Chota Mungwa is heaven....and this place compliments the environment perfectly...it is a farmstay....with the somewhat unpolished natural feeling it evokes...and the service was always with a 😃....we enjoyed the local food...the owner herself is a great cook...and graciously provided us with some of her cooking...
We would like to go there again and again...
We had a wonderful stay! Loved the aesthetics of the room and kitchen, and the overall peace and quietness of the place. The homestay staff were really good and helpful, and the food was absolutely great. What made it even more special was spending time with the owner — she is such a lovely person and I really enjoyed our conversations. And Jimmy, their sweet and friendly dog, made the experience even more beautiful!
Me and my husband had talks with another homestay but eventually it didn't happen and we landed up here and I am so thankful that we came to this awesome farmstay. We just wanted to unwind from city life and spend some peaceful time and Monratino farmstay didn't fail us. It was just the perfect place for us, surrounded by greenery all over. The woods, chirping of the birds, sound of crickets , the beautiful butterflies in the mornings; everything just mesmerised us.
Before coming to stay we had a conversation with Michelle, who is the owner of this farmstay and we told her that we would love to have nepali food and so we were served with thukpa, momo, gundruk ko jhol, shilam ko achar, rai saag and I cannot forget the homemade ghee, wow!
Michelle is such a wonderful person with golden heart. She even cooked for us and that pork vindaloo was just awesome!! We both love you for your great hospitality and warmth ❤️
We stayed for 12 days here and walked every morning and evening, saw beautiful waterfalls which are at a walking distance from the farmstay. We also went walking to 'Mane Dara' , which has a beautiful monastery there. The most beautiful thing is you can see Kanchenjunga from the farmstay itself standing on the way to kitchen. If you go little uphill from the right hand side of the farmstay, you can see the full view of Kanchenjunga. The cottages are very pretty and are well furnished and very neat and tidy as shown in pictures. But yes, the bed is little uncomfortable for a couple as its small in size, not the usual size. But this little flaw didn't matter for us as we got so much in return from this place.
I cannot end this review without sharing the wonderful experience with the beautiful people of this village. Seema who cooked for us and took care of everything with a smile. Manika who stayed nearby , who also cooked tasty dishes for us when Seema had to attend the funeral ceremony of her relative. I shared beautiful moments with them, laughed and heard their heartfelt stories. I met few kids who greeted me every morning and evening with a lovely smile whenever they saw me.
You can visit, Teesta valley tea estate, Ronglee Tea garden, Teesta bajar, Takdah tea estate, Lamahatta from here. We went to Teesta valley tea estate and it was such a bliss!! Darjeeling and Kalimpong are also nearby and the service vehicles runs everyday.
I hope to return to this beautiful place as I want to see oranges in full bloom, must be a heavenly sight.
Nice place.
The place is good only if its winter.. and the hosts are amazing ..The food is good but it doesnt include the snacks which should be for the price they are charging..The rooms are small and bed is extremely small to accomdate two people..The normal cottages are better than the preminum cottage as per the view..
Personally i found it a bit on the higher side of tarif when compared to other places in north bengal
The stay is in the admist of the beautiful forest and you dont get to do anything apart from relaxing only if its winter or if you are in group.
Please check the weather and then visit..
I would highly recommend to go to this place if you are looking for some offbeat places near Darjeeling. Place away from all kind of city chaos and pollution, surrounded by only nature, peace and good time. Very few people live around the area. The owner and the staffs their are very supportive and hospitality that we got was top notch. Food taste was great. Felt like home food. The owner took us to a nearby village and also there is a waterfall nearby.
Overall it was a great experience.

We recently had the opportunity to spend a night at Monratino – The Orange Farm Stay,
thanks to a last-minute change in our plans and their kind availability. The experience was so memorable that it deserves to be shared.
First and foremost, we must acknowledge the exceptional hospitality of the host, Michelle. An entrepreneur in her own right, her warmth and dedication truly stood out from our numerous stays across North Bengal and beyond. Despite our late arrival—delayed by festive Puja traffic and our driver’s adventurous detour—Michelle kept in constant touch, even offering to send us a car when ours had a minor breakdown.
Upon reaching, she personally guided us to a nearby waterfall, where we witnessed the roaring cascade framed by lush greenery, glowing under the twilight of the setting sun. Back at the farm stay, she welcomed us with warm cups of tea and cookies. The evening unfolded in serene silence, surrounded by nature, while Michelle herself prepared dinner. With most of her staff away for the upcoming Dussehra festival, she single-handedly managed everything—cooking, serving us with care, and later waiting patiently for other guests who arrived late at night.
The farm stay itself has a rustic charm: cozy cottages with small balconies, simple wooden furniture blending seamlessly with the natural setting, comfortable interiors, and well-maintained bathrooms with all necessary amenities. What makes Monratino truly unique are the countless orange trees that, come winter, will be adorned with golden fruits, creating a magical landscape.
For anyone seeking peace, natural beauty, and heartfelt hospitality, this retreat is ideal—whether for a short 2–3 day break or even a longer work-from-nature stay. The internet connectivity makes it practical too.
It was a great experience here. Calm and peaceful place. Loved the food and the hospitality.
The view here was very good, I think whoever is planning to visit should definitely visit once.
My friends and I stayed there for 2 days. I am actually short of words to describe the entire experience. The location is off beat, away from chaos and crowded streets of Darjeeling. Has breathtaking views. Food is amazing, and people feel like home away from home. I even ended up making new friends on the property.
I want to talk about the food quality which is just awesome! I casually requested for some desert, which they provided the very next day, (wasn’t the part of menu).
I would whole heartedly recommend this place to each and everyone out there! Please do visit, I assure you, you won’t regret!
Recently visited this place with my family and had a great escape from the buzzing city life. The host is so warm, she will push boundaries to fullfill your needs and is open for customisation. The staff is very welcoming and makes you feel like home. The food is great with earthy flavours and home cooked meals are prepared fresh with the organic local ingredients available . The location is to die for, we got lucky to see the great Kanchenjunga straight from our stay. Our host arranged for a quick hike to the hidden waterfalls in the mountain forest, which was an add on. Our host helped me curate my itinerary and arranged the cab service. She even took care of my baby when asleep. The people are very warm,it was one of the best stays that we had. The things they offer at this price point is amazing. Looking forward to visit it again.
A surreal experience with scenic views of the hills and forest. The hospitality was amazing and the food was delicious. If the weather is clear, we can have a great view of the majestic Kanchenjunga too. Will definitely visit again.
We spent the most amazing 3 Days at this pristine property. It is way more beautiful than it appears in photos. This property is in Interiors of the Darjeeling mountains and You wake up to the chirping of the birds every single Morning. Michelle the owner is a fantastic host , she planned our whole itinerary for 3 days according to our requirements. The food prepared by local staff was delicious. You can just come here and do nothing whole day!! Just relax, take a walk in the beautiful surroundings, grab a cup of hot tea and read a book. We wish we could have spent few more days here. We will be Definitely coming back soon.
Had a lovely stay!!
Went there with my dad and my sister for a short break and it was a lovely time!!
Food was delicious with freshly picked organic veggies and enjoyed the short hike we went 🤗
Would love to visit again after hectic days in a city.
Amazing place and staff. Loved the ambience here.
Had a wonderful experience at this beautiful farm stay nestled amidst the green mountains of Darjeeling. The calm and peaceful surroundings made it the perfect escape from the busy city life. The hospitality was truly heartwarming—so welcoming. The food was absolutely amazing, just like home-cooked meals. A perfect place to relax, unwind, and enjoy nature at its best.
Definitely returning back, thank you for great hospitality.
