⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Our stay at Bungalow No. 12, Takdah was truly unforgettable. Nestled amidst lush forests and surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty, this charming old British bungalow offers a perfect blend of heritage, peace, and comfort. Every corner of the property has its own old-world charm, and waking up to the serene surroundings was an experience we'll always cherish. What made our stay even more special was the warmth and hospitality of Norbu, Archana, and the entire team. They looked after us with such genuine care that we felt completely at home. The food was simple and delicious, the service was excellent, and the peaceful ambience made it the perfect place to unwind and reconnect with nature. A heartfelt thank you to the entire team for creating such wonderful memories for our family. We would love to return again and highly recommend Bungalow No. 12 to anyone looking for an authentic, peaceful, and memorable stay in Takdah.

This is by far the worst property I have ever stayed at. The place may look attractive from the outside, but that's where everything good ends. The level of cleanliness was absolutely unacceptable. The kitchen and wash basin were so filthy that they made us feel sick. The bed sheets provided were stained and extremely dirty. Even after waiting almost two hours for a replacement, the new sheets were in an even worse condition. We informed the owner, Ms. Lama, but nothing was done to address the situation. There was no concern for guests or any attempt to improve the experience. I have travelled across North Bengal more than 100 times and have stayed at numerous properties, but this has been the worst experience by far. The staff were rude, the hospitality was non-existent, and despite charging premium rates, the service was shockingly poor. No one even offered basic assistance like helping us carry our luggage. This property is completely overhyped and nowhere close to being worth the money. If you're visiting only for photos, take a few pictures from outside and leave. Staying here is a complete waste of money. Avoid this place if you value cleanliness, basic hospitality, and a comfortable stay.

Horrible service, food and zero maintenance of the beautifully built bunglow. The kitchen and wash basin is so dirty we felt like vomiting. They provided us very dirty bed sheets. After requesting to change it after 2 hours they changed it with even more dirtier sheets. We informed the owner Ms Lama. But that also not work on improving the service. Have been to North Bengal more than 100 times. But this is the worst property I have been to. Very rude behaviour with over hyped and too much costly. No one even will offer to carry your bags to room.Beware of this place and if you need asthetic pictures click from outside. Don't stay here. Very poor and horrible experience.

Pathetic condition of the property. Not at all maintained in any perspective. Zero hygiene zero maintenance zero service. Food was not even ordinary. It was bland and tasteless. Kitchen is so dirty that you’ll not feel like eating after you see the kitchen area. Complained about the dirty bed sheets, pillow covers and blanket cover. It took 1.5hrs for them to change those with even more dirty bed sheets and pillow covers. Room was so shady and damn that I didn’t feel like entering. And they charge too much for this room and charge for food separately and provide such pathetic food. Not at all worthy.

The property itself is located in a very scenic place, and the exterior looks beautiful. But that's pretty much the only positive about this place. The rooms were very very dirty and untidy, especially the bedsheets, which seemed like they haven't been changed for weeks. We booked the suite room, which was not at all worth the 9000 per night cost. The room and the property was poorly maintained. The service was very poor, and the staff was very casual, breakfast wasn't ready until 10:30, and if u didn't tell them what u wanted atleast 3-4 hours in prior, u wouldn't get any food, as they didn't make any extra food. They didn't even serve water in the restaurant, and water was not included in the additional 900rs per day meal cost which was absurd. Everything came at an extra cost. They wouldn't even make tea, saying you can make it in your room. For charging prices so high, you must provide the service to make up to it. The hygiene was so poor that by the last day, we just couldn't wait to get out of there. The vibe of the place was very depressing, and there was literally nothing to do. There is no restaurant or eatery in close vicinity, so you're pretty much stuck there.

Beautiful property but interior certainly needs upgrading. Rooms are quite shabby and bed linens old and worn out. Food is simple and tasty.

Takdah Heritage Bungalow No. 12 was an absolute disaster. Horrible food, badly maintained rooms, indifferent staff, and a complete waste of money. The place is heavily overrated and survives purely on misleading online hype. What should have been a peaceful heritage stay turned into an exhausting and deeply disappointing experience. Strongly recommend avoiding this place entirely.

I loved this place. Location is in the middle of small villages and jungle area. There are 4 to 5 people working at this bunglow. They manage cooking, room service, cleaning. Bunglow is awesome. I had booked standard room for rs 3000 per night. Fooding charges are rs 900 per person for 3 meals. Kinds are charged 450 for 3 meals. This place is at lower height compared to darjeeling but having almost same temparature (may be 2 degree less). But this place is not crowded like darjeeling. There is no hotel nearby...just a very small market which is 2 oms away. Room service was ok but needs improvement a lot. I asked for tea at 5 pm and I was told that they will provide at 6.30 pm and it was never provided. You do not have a lot of food option here. They can prepare a few items on demand which will be chargeable but they have limited items available.

The bungalow is set in a scenic location, surrounded by beautiful pine forest, and the heritage building itself looks charming and photogenic from the outside. Unfortunately, the stay was disappointing. The rooms were not clean — I found hair on the bedsheets, and it seemed like the bedding and blanket covers had not been changed between guests. After spotting leeches in the room which came with our shoes when we were exploring pine forest, I asked the staff to clean the entire space, but they said housekeeping was not available, which was very concerning. The food was another letdown. It lacked both quality and hygiene, and the caretaker did not put much effort into serving or ensuring guest comfort. Adding to the discomfort, the approach road to the bungalow is in terrible condition, making the journey unpleasant. On top of that, the weather is very cold, yet heaters are only provided at an extra cost — something that should really be included by default in such conditions.

I recently stayed at Takdah Heritage Bungalow No. 12 with my parents and husband, and it turned out to be one of the most disappointing stays we’ve experienced. We booked the most expensive room, paying nearly ₹8,000 per night (₹7,000 + GST), and that didn’t even include food. Meals were charged at an additional ₹900 per person per day, excluding snacks — which were priced outrageously (₹180 for fries, ₹200+ for chicken pakoras that were honestly not even edible). While the property looks beautiful from the outside and in photos, the reality is completely different. The dining area was extremely disappointing — dingy, dirty, and poorly maintained. The kitchen was visibly untidy and unhygienic, and even the wash area near the dining space made us uncomfortable. For a place charging such high tariffs, basic cleanliness is the bare minimum, which was clearly missing. It genuinely makes you wonder where the money is being spent. The service was equally poor. At one point, we literally had to walk into the kitchen ourselves to get cups for coffee — something that should never happen in a paid stay. Despite charging ₹900 per person for food, the meals were very basic, repetitive, and tasteless (mostly sabji and egg curry). Not even a decent cup of tea was provided, and snacks were all extra — adding to the already high cost. The rooms were in a very bad condition: • Unclean bedsheets, pillows, and quilts • Presence of spiders in bedding • Poor maintenance (curtain holder almost falling off) • Rooms extremely cold, and the fireplace comes at an additional heavy cost To make matters worse, I personally experienced skin rashes during the stay, which clearly reflects the lack of hygiene. Despite being called a “homestay”, there was no warmth, no hospitality, no homely feeling at all. The owner seemed more focused on charging extra money at every step rather than providing even basic service or comfort. Overall, the ambience felt negative, the hygiene was unacceptable, the service was poor, and the pricing was completely unjustified. ❌ Absolutely not worth the money and definitely not recommended.

Very very amazing place with good food, warm hospitality....really still can't get over the hangover of this amazing place....Room rates and fooding charges very much affordable.....Wish visits again and again.

This place is difficult to get to. The rooms are not well maintained. Neither are the bathrooms. No personal touch by the owners. Good food. Nice garden. I posted the review and this was the response --"Have you really stay at Bungalow no 12" The owners don't believe that we stayed in Bungalow 12, so I've posted a photo of the bungalow, taken by us. I hope they don't think that the photo is fake. :D

Takdah heritage bungalow no 12 was a pleasant surprise. A colonial bungalow set inside the forest, lovingly restored by Mr and Mrs Lama. It has several rooms, each a delightful surprise on its own. The hosts live on the premises and so handle any situations at once. And the staff are really nice. The housekeeper was a delight, efficient, obliging and always good natured and smiling. The cook gave us ’ghar ka khana’ , tasty and simple, eaten by guests and host alike. Beautiful serene location with a small hiking trail and enormous pine trees. Friendly dogs on the premises (an added bonus for me) and we saw many birds and some wild rabbits. And the best was it was a cricket final and the tv in the sitting-dining area didn’t work. The host himself brought down his enormous tv and all of us watched the match together with great enthusiasm and fun. Was by far the best cricket viewing we ever had

A beautiful heritage property, so well maintained! Staff are so attentive and helpful! Bed and linen are super hygienic. Food is very very tasty. Would love to visit soon!
