Just awesome ambience. Food is okay but stuffs are very well behaved. Best place to rest.

We have stayed here for 1 night. The ambience and the hospitality of this bungalow is excellent. We enjoyed the beauty of natural surroundings fully from this bungalow. The quality, hygiene and taste of food they served is mention worthy. I will like to stay again in Rose Villa in my next Takdah visit.

A serene escape we’ll never forget! Stayed at this beautiful heritage bungalow from 23rd to 26th May 2026, and it was pure serenity. Waking up to panoramic views, the gentle sound of different birds, and walking into the aroma of mouthwatering home-cooked local food made the experience unforgettable. We were a group of 9, ages 19 to 70, and the homestay worked perfectly for all of us. The warmth and hospitality of the crew was simply incomparable - soft, gentle, and genuinely caring in every little touch. Even now we’re missing that kindness. The taste of living here felt amazing. The food, the setting, the people - everything came together for a truly special stay. We’ll always prefer coming back here and will happily recommend it to anyone looking for a calm, soulful, and welcoming experience. - Arunasish Dutta

A tranquil place amidst pine forest in Tukdah. You can have the historical experience to stay in a bunglow. The rooms are old and the expectations should not be of that a hotel. Food is one of the best part of our stay. I can go back again for the food.

It was a very soothing, peaceful stay .felt a very positive vibe among all the staffs & the family members of the owner .owner himself was also very gentle. The weather ,this mid may(17th & 18th May,26) was foggy & mistic.going in a short site seeing to Tinchuley & Lamahatta, taking a short walk from the property to the orchid centre(5 minutes walk) & chilling rest of the time in the bungalow with a novel from the library & a cup of darjeeling tea, it was all such a relaxing experience. The service & the foods were also a series of platter full of delicacy & warm care.when you find a place like this where your stay leaves you with a feeling that you must come here again in some other season to discover it once again in a different light altogether, then it proves beyond doubt that takdah & rose villa combo is an excellent choice.

It was an awesome experience. Location is superb and service was impeccable. Host was very courteous too. The only suggestion, I would like to give is, there can be a sitting area at the front as well as at the lawn.

This is a quiet & quaint place in Takdah - a little outside main Darjeeling. Stay here if you want to experience the peace and quiet of the mountains away from the tourist crowds of Darjeeling. Decently maintained, clean, decent food and very accomodating hosts who live right there on the property.

I stayed there for 4 nights and the host Galchen Lama and his staff spoilt us. They were caring and the food was wonderful. It was service with a smile, it was lile being at home. 😊

Beautiful bungalow. The home made food is to die for. Family is loving and caring. There isn’t much around to check out if you are a person who likes to visit multiple spots like a tourist; but the property makes up for it. Jhengchub is a great host.

Wonderful host and such excellent food that it spoils you. The taste buds are still tingling and pity the hotels where I stayed later on my onward journey as no one came near what we ate at Rose Villa. It was not a home stay, it was HOME and with cooking to rival any mother's preparation. :-)

I had an opportunity to visit Takdah along with my friend Anindya and stay at the Rosa Villa Heritage Bungalow (no 9) in late January 2025. We did a road trip starting from Kolkata and doing an overnight stop at Malda. Next morning we drove off in the direction of Siliguri and started climbing the hills around 3:30 PM. The last stretch of the road was tricky with dusk fast approaching and we finally made it to Rose Villa around 6 PM and it was pitch dark. With our luggage safely transferred inside and the XUV 500 parked we set down to enjoy the garden and explore the colonial bungalow with a history of over 100 years. Rose Villa was setup by British tea planters in 1912, now owned by locals. The bungalow has a main building that houses the guest rooms, the kitchen and dining area as well as a long balcony. There is also an extension where we were staying. The bungalow retains a lot of its character from the colonial bygone era and exudes a timeless elegance.|It was a cold January evening and we settled down to some tea in the garden. Tea was followed by us heading to our room to relax as well as enjoy our Bushmills whisky procured from faraway Ireland. Numerous photos of the Rose Villa bungalow and nearby travels are attached with this travelogue.|The next few days we spent exploring the Takdah area with the ever gracious Jhanchup Galsen Llama as our local guide and host at Rose Villa cottage.|Day One - After a sumptuous breakfast at the Rose Villa after a good night's sleep we were ready to explore. Day one sightseeing included the Takdah Orchid Centre literally a two minute walk from Rose Villa, Nirmal Farms in Bara Mangwa Basty on the Tinchuley Lopchu road and the Tinchuley view point. The Takdah Orchid centre has a rich history of having been a parade ground for the British Indian Army before Independence, now transformed into a beautiful garden and orchid centre by the forest department. The greenhouses have some rare cactus varieties that are a photographer's delight. From the Orchid centre we headed to the elegant Nirmal Farms, a farmstay in the Mangwa Basty area. We explored the colourful Nirmal Farms retail shop with a multitude of products from fresh fruit juices, tea to mango pickles. The highlight of our stop here was to try out Orange beer, we sat in an open bar facing the mango orchards and hills in the distance, enjoying our drink. A must try if you are in the Takdah region.|We also visited the Tinchuley viewpoint which gives a bird’s eye view of the hills around and the constant play of the clouds and the sun with the numerous tea gardens in view.|Day Two - the following morning after breakfast we spent the day visiting homestays in Lamahatta and Namsewal Cottages at Ranagaon. We drove down to the Lamahatta lower valley where we visited a beautiful homestay owned by Rohit Andrew Pradhan. We were treated to some lovely chicken sausages and tea. The homestay had wooden rooms with wonderful view of the hills around. |Next stop was at Sabin Mukhiya's Nameswal Cottages at Ranagaon. Sabin is not only a great cook having been associated with Glenburn Tea Estate for many years but also runs bird watching walks for interested tourists. We had some great food here as well as fascinating conversations about the tourism and tea in the hills.|Our highlight of the stay was being able to meet the oldest tea planter in India and the owner of Rose Villa, Manbahadur Pakrin, a young man of 102 years. We got to hear stories from a bygone area as well as hear of his exploits in horse racing. In 1978 Manbahadur's horse won the Governors Cup. The room where he stays has images of his younger days and horse riding exploits including the Governors Cup victory. It was Jhanchup who helped us communicate with Manbahadur. The stay at the bungalow was not only comfortable, with a rich essence of tea history, we were also treated with amazing food be it lunch, dinner or breakfast. |The final evening of our stay we had a lovely bonfire setup in front of our rooms, where we sipped whisky and reminisced our travels over the last few days. Chicken kebars and onion bhajji added to our gastronomic delights.|The following morning we checked out after breakfast and headed to Darjeeling about an hour away. We took away some wonderful moments that will be etched in our memories for years, our experience enriched by our most gracious host Jhanchup and the ever smiling staff at Rose Villa. If you are in the Darjeeling area, Rose Villa at Takdah is a must visit.
