Asraya Homestay

I am a travel blogger and travel a lot, staying in many different hotels, so I clearly understand the balance between price, quality, and service. When booking via Booking, it was clearly stated that payment should be made at the property. However, about 30 minutes later, I received a message asking me to urgently pay via an external link. I never follow such links — for safety reasons, I only pay directly through Booking or at the hotel. It also turned out that the property has no road access. You have to walk up approximately 200 meters of stairs to reach it. I had a very large and heavy suitcase, and the staff informed me that they do not carry luggage, even though the room was already confirmed and booked. I arrived around 10:00 PM. The room was extremely cold, with no heater. At 11:00 PM, the electricity was completely cut off — no lights, no hot water, no ability to charge my phone. In the morning, the situation was the same. I had to leave without a shower and with a dead phone. This level of service is completely unacceptable. Very disappointing experience.

I visited Darjeeling for a holiday in the first week of May and stayed for a week at Asraya Homestay. The host Vicky is a lovely, kind person and accessible if you need anything anytime. The room (and the bathroom) is very spacious, comfortable with a lovely view of the Happy Valley tea estate. Since I was going to spend time with some friends, I opted out of having food at the homestay.

We had originally booked three nights, wanting a place to relax away from the hubbub of Darjeeling centre but within easy reach of it. A trek had to be curtailed and so we rang Vicky the owner who luckily could fit us in for an extra night at short notice. Four nights in the room at the front with large balcony overlooking an extensive view was wonderful. It was nice sitting there having breakfast and watching all the colourful birds flitting about in the garden trees. We ordered meals a la carte and at any time of the day Rahul the cook produced really delicious fare – his veg thalis in particular. Vicky organised for our laundry to be done which was useful as we were going on a longer trek next.||Observatory Hill Road was fairly steeply uphill but only a short distance away. It didn’t take long to reach it and a good thing as on two mornings we aimed to get there before 7am to get a view of Kanchenjunga. We were lucky it cleared for a time and we relaxed there, sitting on a bench sipping hot milk tea and taking lots of photos. The loop road was a very pleasant stroll and we ended up in the mall for a late breakfast on those days.||The room made for a comfortable stay; it was spacious with modern décor and had all the amenities we needed. Vicky was a tremendous host, very helpful and did what he could to make our stay memorable. We found Asraya Homestay’s hospitality above the norm and so highly recommend it.

have traveled to Darjeeling many times and stayed in different guest houses, homestays, and hotels, but staying here was my worst decision. The room itself was average, but the main issue was the owner’s behavior. Since they are vegetarian, they did not even provide plates or glasses, which is very inconvenient for guests. At the time of booking, a person named Mr. Vicky informed us that kitchen facilities would be available (veg only). However, after reaching the property, he said the kitchen was completely closed and told us we would have to knock early in the morning. The location is also far from the main market, so finding food at night was very difficult. We tried to adjust and ignore these issues, but the location of the room is very high above the road, with many stairs. We had a lot of luggage, and in Darjeeling most hotels or homestays at least send someone to help with luggage during check-in and check-out. Here, they charged ₹200 for luggage assistance during check-in and check-out. Additionally, no room heater facility was provided, which is a major problem considering the cold weather in Darjeeling. Overall, the lack of basic hospitality and misleading information made this stay very disappointing.

We had an excellent stay at Ashraya Homestay. The location is peaceful and relaxing. The views from the property are genuinely refreshing, a perfect place to unwind and slow down. The hospitality shown by Vicky and his family genuinely feels heart-touching. If you’re looking for a quiet, comfortable place with great views and genuinely good hosts, Ashraya Homestay is a solid choice.

I was in Darjeeling for 2 days and opted for this homestay, although it has all those stairs to reach (not v much tbh) it was worth. I was bit sceptical when I read earlier review but I confirmed and it was resolved by the time we reached. There was absolutely no problem in terms of stay , cleaning and room service. Rooms are spacious,clean and have good view. Because of rain we spent entire day in room and ordered food and it was all good. thank you so much..

The view of Happy Valley Tea Estate from the rooms is great. Nice atmosphere. Behaviour of the staff of this homestay is very warm and helpful. They are ready to help at any point. They provided home cooked food for my 1 year 5 months baby. But we booked this homestay in search of quality vacation, instead we are little desolate to see few things. First of all the cleanliness of the rooms and laundry. Didn't find clean, when even we went with child. Secondly, the price of the available food items (pure veg) in the homestay. Who charges 120 rupees for half a cup of normal tea or coffee sitting in their own Darjeeling? Gosh! Thirdly, communication. We suffered a bit because my 70 year old father travelled with us (though they stated the fact, but it wasn't clear that we had to climb that much steep stairs).

I went there to stay one day and I booked this homestay with booking.com. They charge me for 2 deluxe room 7600 and for extra bed 800 rupees but it’s was ok for me I had no problem with this. Problem was that the water dropping from the roof on my bed, whole night water dropping, my 5 years daughter was sleeping on it ,second things there was no electricity whole night we were awake in the dark. no inverter and generator there I called owner and told him please arrange some candle in room my daughter is not comfortable in room because of dark but he denied it. When morning we talked him about this and request to please adjust some amount from the total because we had many problems and you didn’t even tried to help us no candles no emergency light nothing. But owner said you have to pay full payment. He only wants money. He doesn’t care about anything. Also no one is there for any support. Kitchen is off for festival. But the owner did not inform about this when we reached there the employee said kitchen is off not open

My worst experience in Darjeeling in this home stay. Kitchen not working no support from anyone. Owner has only one answer for every problem that what can we do ? Water dropping from the roof. Answer is what can we do? No electricity no candles no emergency light? Answer is what can we do? Kitchen is off food will not be available this information owner will not give you. He will ask you to walk 30 minutes and arrange your food. If you cannot take care of your guests please write in your profile that you will not take care of your guest. You have to deal with all the problems which you will face here. Pathetic experience and behaviour by people and owner.

This is a very bad homestay in Darjeeling, there are no facilities at all, there is no tissue paper in the bathroom, water is falling from the selling, there was no light n understand the situation yesterday rain but we ask owner we need help but he directly ignore, , I came with my family, why there was no kitchen facility? and no one was there for help, there was no light whole night, I asked the owner but his staff was not there for help the whole night, you will have to work very hard even to go to the shop, absolutely do not go to this homestay otherwise you will have to face a lot of problems. It's not about money how much they charge it's about comfort... Ppl r into money we r not Animals came from city to enjoy ur place. Treat us as a human .

Location is the best , view from balcony was mesmerizing. Food was also very good home made vibes. Overall loved coming here. Will surely book the same place again .

Darjeeling, queen of the hills.I visited many times earlier as this place calm me . But this time i was searching for some hotels or homestay few distance from the main,as i wanted some relaxation and then i found the homestay.In one sentance It was beautiful, peaceful and calm.The room is very big with big balcony as well as big neat & clean toilet.There was no disturbance at all & the view😘as the place was just front of happy valley tea state.For three days we enjoyed a lot ,last day we also got the opportunity to stay for 1 hour extra as our train was late because of the humble owner. But i want to share one thing that the homestay is situated little bit high,so for the senior citizens it may be little complicated. Otherwise it was😘

Good hospitality with a great view. The room was spacious with nice amenities. The room offers great views of Happy valley tea estate. Vicky sir & his staff's hospitality was splendid. I happened to celebrate my birthday with them here organised by their family. You can visit as a couple, family, group of friends or solo. This property has got you covered

The rooms are good, the owner is nice and friendly, the views from the room are good, but the location is very far away, no service boy or any other staff is available to help you. The location is very far away from the centre, you wont get any rikshaw or auto to reach there, and the homestay is located 200-300 metres down from the main road, and the slope is very steep, you have to carry your luggage through this deep slope, which is very tiring. Also, the food menu is very limited, and the timings of ordering is strict, you have to order the previous night if you want to have breakfast the next morning. Similarly order till 5 pm to get the dinner. The food is very costly as well, we paid 80 rs for a cup of tea. The room rent is also average which is 2000 per night, in which you can get a decent room with view and with decent services in the centre of the town.

Recently I have visited in asraya homestay🏫. It has wonderful view from attached balcony and you can enjoy hill and happy valle tea estate view from bed🌄🌻 .Room and washroom was neat and clean and very cozy also🤗.They have good amenities like hot kettle , water service , slippers etc etc😊👍.But a little but far from mall market and have some stairs 😐☹️. But the owner is so helpful and coaporative. Overall very premium and beautiful homestay with location......💯🏞️🥂🌝

We had a great experience at Asraya Homestay. The place was easy to find with clear directions, and Vicky was really warm and welcoming. He helped us with suggestions on where to go, which made our trip even better. Felt super comfortable, just like home. The room had a beautiful, peaceful view—perfect for a relaxed stay. Also, really appreciate how Vicky arranged a heater for us last minute. Would definitely recommend this place!
